Animal Club
Do you like animals? Would you like to join a club to learn about and help animals? Then this is the club for you! This club will focus on learning about animals (wild and domestic) and how to help them. Students will do fundraisers to collect money and/or donations for animal shelters, wildlife organizations, etc. Students will also have the opportunity to go on a field trip at the end of the school year. Black History Club The Black History Club meets during the month of February to promote awareness throughout the school community of the contributions of African-Americans to our society. This is done through pictures, announcements, and video. It is open to students of all grades, backgrounds, and cultures Fellowship of Christian Athletes FCA honors the Lord through participating in community events such as feeding the homeless and Relay For Life, as well as school-wide service events, such as “See you At the Pole” and Toys for Tots. Activities include holiday breakfasts, bonfire, Christmas caroling, Bible discussions, and having fun together. Meetings are every Thursday morning at 7a.m. You do not need to be an athlete to join. Gay Straight Alliance The GSA exists to put an end to bullying and suicide, by creating a safe, comfortable, and tolerant environment where students can feel accepted and respected regardless of their uniqueness. GSA meets once every other week. Golden Elks Student Book Club The mission of the student book club is to read for pleasure, share the experience in various ways, and reach out to the other members of our school population to generate more interest in reading. In this club, you will have the opportunity to review the books you love, and to publish your reviews on our library database. You will also maintain a virtual book shelf on our club blog at Goodreads.com, and participate in activities available on the blog. Everyone is welcome! Key Club Key club is part of Kiwanis International. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. It is a student run organization. Meetings are usually once a month during school. Mega Moody’s Math Competition A team of five juniors or seniors will compete on one Saturday or Sunday in the spring national mathematical modeling competition. Prior to the competition teams will gather to work through practice competition problems with coaching assistance. The schedule will be determined to meet the preferences of the teams. Younger students are welcome to attend and practice with the group but cannot compete until their junior year |
Movie Club
The EHS Movie Club will meet at least once a month during club period to plan, view and discuss movies with other students. The films we select will try to mostly be globally renowned and culturally important documentaries and films. Films that were shown last year included Raiders of the Lost Ark and Back to the Future. This club is open to all students at Elkton High School. National Art Honor Society Sophomores- Seniors may be recommended by an art teacher for membership in the Elkton High School Chapter. Students must complete an application essay, maintain an A to high B average in art classes, have completed at least one high school art class, and perform service through EHS chapter services. Students who complete required service hours and projects, fund raising for a cause, and are visual arts role models, will earn an honor cord to wear at graduation. Dues: $10 Elkton Spirit Network The Elkton Spirit Network (E.SP.N) Club is responsible for creating and broadcasting media-based projects to promote a positive school environment. The club works to cover anything EHS related, including sports, school news, extracurricular activities, and advertising for clubs. Projects that will be produced by the club include the planning, shooting, and editing of commercials, skits, short-films, investigative reports, and PSA's. Students will become experienced with advanced camera operations, verbal and nonverbal communication cues while filming, and the creative processes associated with visual storytelling. An application is required for the club. Physical Computing Club Have you ever wondered how to make a headband that vibrates to remind you at preset times? Do you want to make shoes that blink on the soles as you walk? Are you interested in learning how to write computer code? Do you want to learn how to solder? Come out to the physical computing club! Our goal is for each member or small group of members to produce a device they are proud to present as their own! No prior experience is needed, all are welcome. Student Council The mission of student council shall be to serve the student body of Elkton High School, voice the opinions of the students to the administration and Board of Education, to train students in leadership, and to aid other school organizations. The group meets once a month during the school day. Many activities are held after school. Members must complete 5 service hours per semester. Students who wish to join may complete the application at the beginning of the school year. There are no dues. |
National Honor Society
Open to students in grades 11, and 12 who have at least a 3.6 GPA in high school. Students who qualify must complete an application and meet selection criteria. Applications will be submitted in the Spring for a review. Additionally, induction in the Spring. (Students are encouraged to get involved in leadership roles and community service during their freshman and sophomore years to be prepared for NHS). Goals: to promote the development of scholarship, leadership, service and character among EHS students. Dues: $20.00 |
